The team

Judith Essex started the school in 1988 and was quickly joined by Janet; they had previously met and become friends at a renowned theatre school in the Midlands.

Emma and Becky joined in 2005 and 2008 respectively, having both been pupils from an early age and now oversee the running of the school.

In 2013 we were delighted to welcome Judith Hamlet who is a highly experienced dance teacher and increases the depth of the school's teaching expertise.

emma

Emma

Emma started dancing at the school at the age of 5 and following years of excellent exam results decided to teach dance.

The qualifications for a dancing teacher are both extensive and demanding, but Emma completed the entire range of necessary subjects in 2014. She has now moved onto the Advanced Teachers exams which will enable her to teach to a higher level in a vocational environment.

Emma continues in the role of Wardrobe Mistress for the school as well as being one of the principal teachers.

becky

Becky

Becky is another recruit from within the school. She also started dancing at the age of 5 with a similar experience. Becky was a "Saturday girl" for several years which added to her knowledge before opting to join the teaching staff.

In 2010, when Becky passed her first teaching exam, she achieved the nomination for the Student of the Year award by the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). She has now had 9 years of teaching experience and is well advanced with her professional qualifications.

Lucy

Lucy started dancing at three years old and knew from a young age that she wanted to become a Dance Teacher. After leaving school with a Distinction in GCSE Dance and an A level in Performing Arts (Dance), she went straight into teaching, joining the staff at Judith Essex School of Dancing, whilst also training for her qualifications with one of the IDTA's chief examiners to gain the most teaching experience.

Lucy's qualifications with the IDTA now include Licentiate level in Ballet and is currently working on her Fellowship Ballet, plus Level 4 Diplomas in Tap and Modern/Freestyle. She has also branched into the Dance Fitness world by becoming a qualified Fit4Tap Instructor as well as teaching Dance Fitness classes and a chair-based Dance exercise programme in Care Homes. Lucy has a real passion for choreography, in particular Contemporary which she studied as part of her A-Level and has undergone further training since. Later in 2021 Lucy will be undergoing training for a Dance (Secondary) PGCE with the University of Brighton
